Ingredients

1 1/2 cups warm water
1 packet yeast (active dry, instant, or quick rise)
1/2 tablespoon fine grain salt
3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour or bread flour, plus more for dusting
Not only is this delicious but your house will smell amazing, think bakery amazing.

Instructions

1.In a large bowl, mix together the warm water, yeast, and table salt, until yeast and salt are fully or almost dissolved, I use a whisk for this.
2.Add all the flour to the bowl and stir together, I like to use a wooden spoon. A very sticky dough should form. Once all the ingredients are well combined, cover the bowl with a kitchen towel.
3.Let the dough rise for at least 2-3 hours, somewhere warm. The dough should double in volume. You can let it sit longer if you want. Once the dough has doubled it’s time to bake!
4.Preheat the oven to 450 degrees and place your Dutch oven in the oven, with the lid on, while the oven is preheating. Leave the dutch oven in your oven for 30-45 minutes to ensure it gets nice and hot.
5.Dust a piece of parchment paper with flour. Scrape the dough onto the parchment paper. Shape into a loaf shape, I make a circle as my dutch oven is a round shape.
6.Flip the loaf over so the floured side is on top and the loaf is in the center of the parchment paper. I like to use a second piece of parchment paper to make it easy to flip over. I like to use a sharp knife and cut a few slits across the top of the dough.
7.Remove the preheated Dutch oven from your oven and use oven mitts to remove the lid. Carefully place the dough into the Dutch by holding the parchment paper from the sides and placing it into the Dutch oven.
8.Place the lid back on the Dutch oven and bake on the center rack of the oven for 35 minutes at 450 degrees. After 35 minutes, remove the lid and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes or until the top of the bread is a nice golden brown. Remove the bread from the dutch oven and let cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before slicing. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Not only is this delicious but your house will smell amazing, think bakery amazing.
  • This bread is honestly good enough to eat plain but throw on some butter and drizzle with honey and thank me later.
  • If you don’t have a warm place to let your dough rise, you can set your oven to warm, then turn it off and place the dough in the oven to rise.
  • Like I said, it’s delicious as is but feel free to add in some of your favorites.  Think cheddar cheese, fresh herbs, parmesan cheese or sun dried tomatoes.  Honestly, whatever you want!  You can either mix it in the dough directly or simply sprinkle the top of the dough and bake.
  • You can freeze this like you would freeze any other bread.
