Ingredients

2 pounds lean ground beef or any protein
1 onion, diced
1 bell pepper, diced
1 jalapeno, seeded and finely diced
6 cloves garlic, minced
3 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon cumin
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
½ teaspoon sugar
Salt to taste
Pepper to taste
Perfect for those cool fall days. This is one of those one pot meals that can sit on the stove for everyone to eat when they come home from various activities.

Instructions

1.In a large pot, brown ground beef; drain excess fat.
2.Add onion and jalapeno and cook for about 4-5 minutes.
3.Add chili powder, cumin, sugar, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper.
4.Add garlic and cook for about 1 minute.
5.Stir in tomato paste and crushed tomatoes; bring to a boil.
6.Reduce heat and simmer uncovered 30-45 minutes or until chili has reached desired thickness.
7.Top with cheddar cheese, green onions, sour cream, cilantro or other favorite toppings.

Notes

  • Perfect for those cool fall days. This is a one-pot meal that can sit on the stove for everyone to eat when they come home from various activities.
  • You can prep everything ahead of time and throw it all together last minute!
  • You can use any meat you want. We’ve used ground beef, ground turkey, ground pork and ground chicken. Honestly, whatever you have on hand works.
  • You can leave out the red pepper flakes if you don’t want any heat.
  • I set up a topping bar and just let everyone make their chili bowl how they want it. Crushed Fritos or tortilla chips are a favorite in my house.
