Ingredients

8 ounces cream cheese, softened
3 tablespoons mayo
1 can crab meat, drained and crumbled
2 green onions, finely chopped
2 teaspoons garlic, minced
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 12 oz. package Wonton wrappers
2 teaspoons cornstarch
3 tablespoons water
1 quart canola oil
Hint: Wonton wrappers are usually located in the refrigerated area of the produce section where they also have tofu and egg roll wrappers.

Instructions

1.In a small bowl, gently combine crab meat, cream cheese, mayo, garlic, green onion, Worcestershire sauce and sesame oil.
2.Combine water and cornstarch to create a slurry. Mix well.
3.Place 1 teaspoon of the filling in the center of each. Dab the edges of two sides with cornstarch slurry and fold into triangle. Press firmly to seal removing air from the inside. Continue until all of your filling is used.
4.FRYING:
5.If you have a deep fryer, by all means use it! If not, no worries just heat 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a Dutch oven until it is just under 350°.
6.Fry 4-5 wontons at a time, making sure not to crowd the pan or fryer. Cook each for about 1-2 to minutes flipping them to ensure they are golden brown on both sides. Remember, everything is already cooked. You are just heating it up!
7.Place them on a plate lined with paper towels to cool. These will be very hot so it's best to wait about 5 minutes or so before you eat them!
8.BAKING:
9.Preheat oven to 400°. Line a baking pan with parchment paper.
10.Assemble wontons and spray each with cooking spray.
11.Place wontons on baking tray and bake 12-14 minutes.
12.AIR FRY:
13.Preheat air fryer to 370°.
14.Generously spray each with vegetable or canola cooking spray.
15.Bake 7-9 minutes or until golden and crispy.

Notes

  • Where the heck can I find wonton wrappers? They are usually located in the refrigerated area of the produce section, where they have tofu and egg roll wrappers.
  • This recipe works best with either canned or lump crab meat.
  • If you find you have filling spilling out while cooking, you are putting too much filling in the wonton. The key to a perfect wonton is not to overfill it!
  • You can definitely make these ahead of time for entertaining! Just store these in the refrigerator until you are ready to cook!
  • If you air fry your wontons, they will not be as golden and crispy as they are when they are fried. They are still delicious, though!
  • You can fold them into any shape you would like!  I find it easiest to fold them into triangles and feel they seal tighter this way.
