Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
½ cup unsalted butter, cold and diced into small cubes
1 cup cheddar cheese
4 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped
1 cup buttermilk
Treat yourself and serve biscuits warm with drizzled honey.

Instructions

1.Preheat oven to 425°. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
2.In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, pepper and garlic powder. Add butter and cut into mixture using a pastry cutter or fork until mixture resembles coarse meal.
3.Shred your cheddar cheese and chop your chives. Add to bowl and mix together.
4.Add the buttermilk and mix until mixture comes together into a soft manageable dough.
5.Scoop out ¼ cup or so of the dough and run a knife around the top of the measuring cup; then shake to drop onto parchment.
6.Repeat with remaining dough, spacing evenly to fit about 12 biscuits on the baking sheet.
7.Bake until tops are golden, about 12 – 15 minutes.

Notes

  • If the dough seems to dry when you are mixing it, you can add another 1 – 2 tablespoons of buttermilk if needed.
  • You can also use a large spoon to drop the biscuit dough onto a baking sheet instead of a measuring cup.
  • Treat yourself and serve biscuits warm with drizzled honey or make your own whipped honey butter.
